Turin Tractor Parade and Pull Saturday

The 20th annual Turin tractor parade and pull is Saturday in downtown Turin. 


The 20th annual Turin Tractor Parade and Pull will be held Saturday in downtown Turin.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m., and the pulling competition will follow. There will also be show tractors on display, and awards for “Best Restored,” “Most Original” “Best Paint” and “Ugliest Tractor.”

There will also be the “slow race,” the handstart race, and the pedal race for kids.

And, of course, T-shirts will be available. The shirts are different each year and have become a popular collector’s item. “We’ve ordered about 800 T-shirts,” said Bill Banks, one of the organizers of the event.

There’s also plenty of food for sale, and there is a covered area for watching the show.

The show is organized each year by the Turin Antique Tractor Association. It is a display of antique farm power.

In 2012, the association was able to use money raised during the tractor pull to award a $500 scholarship to an East Coweta High School student. Last year, the association was able to award a $1,000 scholarship. Hopes are to increase the scholarship to $1,500 this year.

Banks will be this year’s grand marshal. “It will be a hard act to follow our grand marshals of the last few years,” he said.

“We’re hoping the weather will cooperate this year,” Banks added. “Last year, we got about halfway rained out.”

There are 10 weight classes and an open class. Tractors can be brought to the show site after 6 p.m. Friday, and help will be available for unloading.
