Coweta County crews demolished the old Fire Station 6 this week.

Coweta County’s former Fire Station One is no more.

Coweta County crews demolished the old fire station this week. The station sat between Greentop Road and U.S. 29, and was Station One for many years. When the new Coweta County Fire Department headquarters on Turkey Creek Road was completed, it became Station One and Greentop became Station 6.

The station has been closed for almost a year, since fire department crews moved to the new Station 6 in Madras.

Before the building could be torn down, it had to be checked for potential hazardous materials, including asbestos, paint and polychlorinated biphenyls.

The property for the station was donated to Coweta County by the Brewster family in 1975. That’s the same year that the Coweta County Fire Department, which was formed in 1972 as a volunteer fire department, began to use a paid staff.

“The county and the fire department are grateful for the Brewsters’ kindness and support in the use of their property to serve our community for nearly 39 years,” said County Administrator Michael Fouts.
