Stolen tractor-trailer stopped in Coweta

by Wes Mayer

A man suspected of stealing a tractor-trailer rig was arrested by a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy Saturday after the sheriff’s office learned the stolen truck was heading into the county.

Just before midnight on Saturday, Deputy Adam Dubois was dispatched to I-85 near Collinsworth Road to intercept a stolen tractor-trailer, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office.

According to Yarbrough, the sheriff’s office was notified by representatives of Civil Constructors, LLC, a construction company in Franklin, Tenn., that they were tracking a stolen, white 1998 Mack tractor-trailer, and it was approaching Coweta County. Civil Constructors apparently installed a tracking device in the truck.

Dubois was able to locate the stolen truck, Yarbrough said, followed it off the interstate and pulled it over near the 1000-block of Collinsworth Road. Dubois was then able to meet with the driver, Eddie Shane Wilson, 37, who not only didn’t have a commercial driver’s license to drive a tractor-trailer, his regular license was also suspended. Wilson was taken into custody, additionally charged with theft by taking and transported to the Coweta County Jail.

According to Yarbrough, Wilson said he was in Franklin, Tenn., when he saw the truck, hopped in and drove away. Wilson told authorities he was on his way to visit relatives in Alabama.
