Water/Sewer Authority gaining new customers

by Sarah Fay Campbell

Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority crews installed 28 new meters last month.

That is “one of the highest numbers we’ve had in awhile,” said Construction Manager Rick Jones.

Jones reported on the progress at the authority’s monthly meeting on Wednesday. The total includes completely new services, called “digs,” installation of meters in developments where most of the infrastructure is already in place, known as “drops,” and irrigation meters.

The authority also got a large number of requests for utility locates, which are required when any construction is going to be done that could impact any utilities infrastructure, such as water and sewer lines. There were 1,403 water line locates and 97 sewer line locates, said Tracy Thigpen, outside sales and service manager.

Some of those locate tickets were needed for road work, Thigpen said. Others are related to new development in industrial parks.

The authority’s total customer base was up by 254 over the previous month, to a total of 25,275, according Wanda Boston, inside sales and service manager. That included 218 new customers who are homeowners.

“We’re encouraged with the new number of homeowners,” said CEO Jay Boren.
