After cloudy skies and rain throughout the day, the sun came out just in time and Newnan’s historic downtown was abuzz as hundreds gathered for Main Street Newnan’s Summer Wined Up event Friday.

The fifth annual Summer Wined Up went from 5 to 9 p.m. and took place primarily indoors at participating locations throughout Newnan’s downtown.

People from all over Newnan, Coweta, and the surrounding areas came together for an evening of fun and good times.

Patricia Trice, owner of American Family Insurance, was one of the downtown merchants who participated in the event. The wine featured in her business was Apothic Red, a red blend from California. Trice enjoyed meeting the people who came into her shop through the event.

This year’s Wined Up was the largest to date, as a record 32 downtown merchants each featured a different wine for tasting. The different wines included 11 whites, 13 reds, and seven speciality drinks. Bottled water was also available at the Piedmont Newnan Wellness Center on West Court Square.

Summer Wined Up also featured live music on the Court Square from different artists throughout the event.

Main Street Newnan’s next big event is the Fourth of July parade in downtown Newnan. The new morning parade begins at 9 a.m. on July 4, and the shorter route will be from the corner of Jackson Street and Temple Avenue to the Greenville Street Park just south of downtown.
