Grantville Police Chief Doug Jordan has found himself suspended … again.

The news of his suspension came Friday morning through an email sent by Grantville Mayor Jim Sells.

“I have suspended Police Chief Doug Jordan for seven days as the charter allows,” Sells said. “I have appointed Lt. Scott Wilson as interim police chief.”

No details regarding the suspension were mentioned in the email.

Sells said the full council will be informed of the reasons and have the ability to act on the matter at the next called meeting – a closed session workshop which is slated for Monday, June 16 at 5 p.m.

However, if Jordan resigns before the meeting, the matter will not be taken up since he will no longer be an employee of the city.

Councilman Johnny Cooks said Friday morning he feels that the issue should now be handled by authorities outside Grantville but was unable to comment on the particulars of the suspension.

“I’ve made it clear to the mayor that we should refer to the county in regarding to taking over the situation,” Cooks said. “I’d like to see this matter taken to the next higher authority for guidance and go from there.”

Last September, Jordan was suspended for a calendar week without pay, following a violation of ex-Grantville City Manager Johnny Williams’ policy to report anything that is not routine in nature. Jordan visited “America’s Toughest Sheriff” Joe Arpaio on a personal trip to Arizona.
