Pilates Loft receives Lolita’s Legacy Certification

The Pilates Loft of Newnan has recently been named a Lolita’s Legacy Comprehensive Pilates Certification/Education studio. The comprehensive program was founded and developed by Lolita San Miguel, one of only two people certified by Pilates creator Joseph Pilates.

A comprehensive certification means that each student will be trained to teach the Pilates Method of exercise from the foundation of mat work to each level on each apparatus or Pilates equipment. The Lolita’s Legacy certification is recognized by The Pilates Method Alliance, the most respected governing agent in the Pilates community.

The certification class will be taught by Mary Ann Briggs, owner of The Pilates Loft. Briggs is certified in Classical Pilates and completed her Master Trainer Certification with San Miguel, completing more than 300 hours of training.

Briggs was involved with the team of master trainers that assisted San Miguel in the writing of the six manuals used during the certification process, and in 2012, she was selected by San Miguel to be a teacher trainer for the program.

In the past year Briggs has traveled to Florida on numerous occasions to teach the Lolita’s Legacy program to trainees, while observed by San Miguel.

“This is quite an honor and privilege,” said Briggs.

Tenaska Georgia Partners awards $2,000 in college scholarships

Tenaska Georgia Partners, L.P., owner of the Tenaska Georgia Generating Station near Franklin, has again awarded $2,000 in college scholarships to two Heard County High School seniors.

Since 2002, Tenaska Georgia Partners has presented 37 scholarships to local students totaling $25,500. The annual scholarship program managed by Omaha, Nebraska-based Tenaska has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships nationwide. A total of 670 students in communities where its facilities are located have benefitted from the program since 2000.

This year, two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Heard County High School seniors. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate good character, academic achievement and leadership to be recognized.

“We believe in the value of education and the role it plays in developing future leaders,” said Roger Allen, plant manager at Tenaska Georgia. “We see great potential in these students and are pleased to help them achieve their goals. They are already having a positive impact on our community, and we look forward to their future contributions.”

Danielle “Jordan” Callahan, daughter of Mark and Diana Callahan, and Jace Mock, son of Johnny and Angie Mock, are the scholarship recipients. Both are from Franklin.

Tenaska’s 945-megawatt facility in Heard County produces electricity for sale to Exelon Generation Company, LLC, which markets the power in the region.
