Driver charged with vehicular homicide

A driver involved in the two-vehicle accident on Fischer Road in late May that claimed the life of a 55-year-old man was charged with vehicular homicide on Friday.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on May 24, when Robert Charles Diaz, 34, who was traveling northbound on Fischer Road, crossed into the path of Michael Allen Naber, 55, traveling southbound, according to Tracey Watson with the Georgia State Patrol.

Emergency personnel arrived to find Diaz’s vehicle lying on its side in the middle of the road and Naber’s upright in the ditch. Naber was found dead upon arrival.

Diaz was seriously injured in the accident and was transported to Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter ambulance.

Authorities with the Georgia State Patrol charged Diaz Friday with vehicular homicide in the first degree, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and failure to maintain lane, according to Coweta County Jail booking logs.
