‘Screen on the Green’ tonight

A “Screen on the Green” outdoor movie event will be presented tonight in First Avenue Park, part of Main Street Newnan’s First Friday event series.

“Downtown Newnan is alive after 5 p.m. every first Friday of the month, April through December, and we invite you all to celebrate with us,” said Main Street program manager Courtney Collins.

Downtown visitors can enjoy shopping after hours at local retail locations, and take advantage of specials at local restaurants, Collins said. “One can also expect to experience a variety of festivities or entertainment downtown that will vary from month to month,” she said.

A Blast from the Past Block Party and Sidewalk Sale and the Screen on the Green event will take place today.

The Blast from the Past Block Party and Sidewalk Sale will begin at 5 p.m. around the Court Square, and the Screen on the Green event will begin at 8 p.m at the First Avenue Park just south of the business district. Disney’s hit animated movie “Frozen” will be the featured film.

“The event is free to the public, and we welcome crowds of all ages,” Collins said.

“Families are encouraged to bring the kids downtown prior to the event and dine at one of our fantastic local eateries. And don’t forget to ask about the Main Street Special at participating locations,” she said. When ordering the Main Street Special, customers will be entered into a drawing to win two free tickets to the Summer Wined-up Event. Downtown retail locations also will feature specials and promotions during the event, she said.

“Main Street Newnan is thrilled to host this family friendly event in historic downtown Newnan. ‘Frozen’ has proven to be a hit film that appeals to crowds of all ages, and our downtown parks are an ideal location for the entire family to kick back and enjoy the evening,” Collins said. “We invite you all to come early and check out the Blast from the Past Block Party and Sidewalk Sale, as we celebrate the history and heritage of our lovely downtown district.”

Main Street Newnan’s monthly Market Day is every first Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. around the Court Square, with unique specialty items from local artisans, artists, and farmers. The market features handmade, homemade and homegrown products, with new vendors and new products each month, Collins said.

The market will feature more than 50 unique spaces, with a variety of one-of-a-kind gift items.

Market Day is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

“The Market Day is an ideal Saturday shopping destination that is beloved by our community,” said Collins. “We invite you all to join us, and explore what the Market Day has to offer.”
