Traffic stop leads to foot chase, tasing and arrest

by Wes Mayer

A man was arrested by officers with the Newnan Police Department Wednesday after he fled on foot from officers during a traffic stop.

Around 1 p.m., Officers Aaron Howard and Aaron Trusty with the police department pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Cliff Payton Circle and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. According to Sgt. Denver Atwood with the police department’s drug unit, when officers discovered the driver had a warrant out for his arrest for a violation of probation, the passenger, Quintavious Devonte Hill, 20, took off running down Cliff Payton Circle.

Officers ended up chasing Hill down the road for a while, Atwood said, and during the chase, Hill threw a bag down on the ground. Officers ended up using their electric stun guns on Hill to end the chase.

Inside the bag, officers found 27 baggies of suspected marijuana, Atwood said – 26 of these were dime-sized bags, but the 27th weighed around a fourth of an ounce. Due to the amount, Hill was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was charged with obstruction for running and he also had a warrant for a violation of probation. Both Hill and the driver were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
