Single-vehicle accident closes Greison Trail

by Wes Mayer

Greison Trail in Newnan was closed for around 30 minutes Thursday after a woman drove her vehicle off the road, causing it to flip upside down.

Around 2:36 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the 300-block of Greison Trail in reference to a single-vehicle accident with possible entrapment.

When responders arrived, they found a 33-year-old woman stuck inside an upside down vehicle and a 4-year-old child – the driver’s son – outside the vehicle, said Capt. Damon Rosser with the Newnan Fire Department.

Emergency medical units tended to the child.

The accident was investigated by Newnan Police Officer Scott Milam, who said it appeared as though the woman was heading southbound on Greison Trail, crossed over the left lane, ran off the road, traveled up an embankment and the vehicle flipped over, coming to a rest upside down.

Milam said witnesses and passers-by managed to help the 4-year-old out of the car, but the driver was entrapped from the position she was in.

Authorities were able to help the woman out of the vehicle, and both she and her son were transported to Atlanta by ambulance – the driver to Grady Memorial Hospital and the 4-year-old to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Egleston. Milam said Greison Trail was closed for about 20 to 30 minutes.
