Niagara Bottling project moving forward

by Clay Neely

It was an abbreviated meeting of the Coweta County Development Authority on Thursday as president Greg Wright had an appointment with a prospective business looking at Coweta County as a potential destination.

Among recent industrial development project activity, the ongoing process of the Niagara Bottling project continues to move quickly. The bond validation hearing was held last week in Coweta County Superior Court and the company has closed on the sale of the property with utility work in its formative stages.

The Niagara Bottling project will also be featured at the Georgia Economic Developers Association luncheon in June. Tommy Hiles with Lee & Associates will be one of the featured speakers at the annual event and he will discuss the partnership that was necessary in order to successfully locate the company in Coweta County.

Niagara Bottling plans to open a $52 million facility in Shenandoah Industrial Park in late 2014, creating 40 jobs. The 450,000-square-foot facility will package and distribute private label water for Niagara customers and the Niagara label.

The development authority also has continued to assist and meet with prospective companies from around the world who are looking to possibly expand their markets into Coweta County, it was reported.

At present, Coweta County’s vacancy rate for industrial space is sitting at 2.6 percent, which marks a reduction from last November’s 3.8 percent rate. With several possible deals in the near future, the expectation is for the rate to decline even further.

Wright also noted Thursday that during his attendance at the 2014 Southern Economic Development Council meeting, one of the health care panelists revealed that more and more health care companies are now avoiding states with a Certificate of Need process because of the possible delays they could face.

“As we’ve seen with HealthSouth and now with the Newnan Behavioral Hospital, the process can most certainly impede the growth process,” Wright said.
