Arnco house damaged by fire

by Wes Mayer

A home in the Arnco community suffered heavy damage after catching on fire early Friday.

Around 9:30 a.m., firefighters with the Coweta County Fire Department responded to the home on 75 Clemit Harris Road in reference to a single-family structure fire, said Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Denney. Engines 2 and 8, Rescue 1, Truck 6 and cars 1 and 3 arrived with 13 personnel to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof.

At the scene, responders learned the occupants of the home had moved out a few days ago. According to Denney, fire crews made an interior attack using a one-and-three-quarter handline and were able to extinguish the fire – the home was heavily damaged, however. Crews were on scene for more than two hours, Denney said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and there were no injuries to firefighters or residents.

This is the second Arnco home to be damaged by fire in the last week. On Monday, a home on the 100-block of Arnco 3rd Street also suffered from heavy fire damage. A total of 14 personnel from the Coweta County Fire Department responded to find heavy flames coming from the rear of the home, which they were able to extinguish after an interior attack.

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters and the American Red Cross helped the victims with temporary shelter and clothing.
