The trial of a man indicted on four counts of child molestation and eight counts of sexual exploitation of children began Tuesday and will continue today.

The defendant, Willie Autrey Gray, was arrested in Coweta County on Aug. 1, 2012. In 2011, Gray was accused of molesting two juvenile girls on separate occasions and later showing child pornography to one of them to promote another act of molestation. When the molestation was reported to authorities a year later, investigators obtained a warrant to search Gray’s computers, and on his personal laptop computer, forensics analysts found a number of child pornography videos.

On Tuesday, a jury was selected and attorneys gave their opening arguments. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kevin McMurry, and Gray is being defended by William D. Smith, an attorney from Atlanta.

The trial will resume today at 9 a.m.

However, the victims, who are both under 16 years old, are McMurry’s first witnesses, and attorneys agreed to close the courtroom to the public with the exception of family members, attorneys, jurors and reporters.
