Four arrested on meth possession, theft charges

by Wes Mayer

Four people were arrested Wednesday after Coweta County investigators observed a possible drug deal.

Around 7:30 p.m., investigators with the Coweta County Crime Suppression Unit were in the area of 50 Bullsboro Drive when they witnessed what was believed to be an illegal drug transaction involving a gray Chevrolet Cruze with a Florida tag, said Capt. John Lewis with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators checked the Cruze’s registration and found it was reported stolen to the Newnan Police Department by Hertz Rent-a-Car.

According to Lewis, investigators performed a traffic stop and identified four occupants in the vehicle — Dustin Scott Parrott, 22, Crystal Elizabeth Parrott, 35, Halie Elizabeth McKnight, 27, and Ashley Elizabeth Harbin, 24. Harbin is also known as Ashley Key, and both she and Dustin Parrott had active warrants for their arrest from other counties.

Inside the vehicle, investigators located an amount of methamphetamine and some prescription medication. Due to the packaging of the methamphetamine, investigators had reason to believe the suspect had intent to distribute it, Lewis said.

Crystal Parrott was charged with theft by taking motor vehicle; Dustin Parrott was charged with theft by receiving motor vehicle, driving on a suspended driver’s license, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and with the active warrant out of Fayette County; Harbin was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and with the active warrant out of Meriwether County; and McKnight was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. All four were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
