Burglary suspect caught red-handed

Jeffery Lee Ray, 43, was with criminal trespassing.

A man was arrested early Friday after a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy caught him in the act of burglarizing storage units, authorities said.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Deputy Jimiski Woods was patrolling the area along East Highway 16 when he saw sparks flying in the air at Coweta Storage Inc., said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office. Woods pulled into the property and found a man, later identified as Jeffery Lee Ray, 43, using a power saw to cut off storage units’ locks, Yarbrough said.

According to Yarbrough, Woods took Ray into custody, and by using the facility’s video surveillance cameras, discovered Ray had already broken into three units and had stolen multiple stored items. Also, Ray was putting the stolen items into his truck, which had its tag covered to conceal his identity, Yarbrough said.

Woods charged Ray with criminal trespassing — Ray used the power saw to cut the lock off the facility’s entrance gate — and three counts of burglary, and Ray was transported to the Coweta County jail, Yarbrough said.
