The Oaks at Turin subdivision started a new Christmas tradition of lighting luminarias on Christmas Eve 2013. Residents plan to continue it for the Christmas season in 2014.

The Oaks at Turin subdivision started a new tradition of lighting Christmas luminarias to celebrate the economic improvement in their neighborhood.

“The Oaks at Turin is a new subdivision which began in 2006, but was greatly impacted by the recession,” said resident Michael Frnka. “We struggled as a neighborhood until about a year ago when construction resumed and have now almost built all of our 71 lots.”

According to Frnka, the recent improvement gave the neighborhood an extra incentive to celebrate this Christmas, so they started their new tradition of lighting Christmas luminarias.

“We initiated a new tradition which we hope will be enjoyed by many residents from the surrounding area,” he said. “The three streets in our neighborhood are lined with recycled milk jugs that have a votive candle and some sand in them. The candles line the streets and are lit about dusk on Christmas Eve.”

“The result is a surprisingly peaceful and beautiful atmosphere appreciated by all who can view the visual transformation of a traditional subdivision into a magical Christmas appearance,” he added.

Residents plan to continue this project next year.
