Suspected heroin trafficker spends Christmas in jail

A man spent his Christmas in jail after he was caught attempting to traffic heroin into Coweta County, authorities said.

On Monday, investigators with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office's Crime Suppression Unit set up a deal via telephone with a suspected heroin dealer, Melvin Zorn, 49, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff's office. According to Yarbrough, the CSU had been investigating Zorn for about three weeks after learning he was delivering heroin into the county. Investigators set up a buy with Zorn over the phone, Yarbrough said, and he agreed to drive from Atlanta to meet at the Marathon gas station off I-85 exit 56, Collinsworth Road.

According to Yarbrough, around 4:08 p.m. Monday at the Marathon, investigators caught and took Zorn into custody. Zorn had four grams of heroin in his possession - any amount more than three grams is considered trafficking - and he was planning on selling them for $550, Yarbrough said.

Investigators charged Zorn with heroin trafficking and for using a communications facility for a drug transaction, Yarbrough said, and he was transported to the Coweta County jail.
