Trespassing suspect busted with cocaine

by Wes Mayer

A man was arrested Tuesday after Newnan Police officers found cocaine in his pockets, authorities said.

According to Sgt. Mark Cooper with the Newnan Police Department, officers Aaron Howard and Kyle LaChance were patrolling the area of Fairmount Drive after a call about trespassing.

In the backyard of a vacant home on 69 Fairmount Drive, the officers found two people trespassing and acting suspiciously, Cooper said.

The officers approached the two and received consent to search them, Cooper said.

One of the two suspects, Leondra Jermain Powell, 40, had two plastic bags containing 15 individually wrapped crack cocaine rocks in his pocket, Cooper said.

Powell was charged for the possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and was transported to the Coweta County Jail.
