Suspect attempts to stash pot in deputy's car

A man got himself into further trouble after being transported to jail after a Coweta County Sheriff's Office deputy found multiple bags of marijuana hidden under his vehicle's back seat.

Around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Deputy Kevin Keeble clocked a driver speeding 68 mph in a 55 mph zone on Ga. Highway 85 near Musick Park Drive in Senoia, said Lt. John Lewis with the sheriff 's off ice. Keeble pulled the driver over, and when he approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of marijuana.

The driver was identified as Jeffon Quartez Hough, 26, and after Keeble ran Hough's name in the system, a violation of probation warrant for his arrest in Meriwether County popped up, Lewis said. Keeble arrested Hough, searched him, and found some marijuana in a baggie in one of his pockets. Keeble searched the car further, and found more baggies of marijuana in the glove box along with a 9mm handgun.

Keeble asked Hough if he had more marijuana in his possession, Lewis said, but Hough claimed he did not. Hough was charged for speeding and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and Keeble transported him to the Coweta County Jail.

However, sometime on the way to the jail, Hough removed more baggies of marijuana from his pants and wedged them into Keeble's vehicle's back seat, Lewis said. After Hough was booked into jail, Keeble went back to his car and searched the back seat - something deputies always do before shifts and after arrests, Lewis said. Keeble found the hidden baggies of marijuana and Hough was additionally charged with crossing a guard line with illegal drugs.
