Motorist in Hwy. 34 accident dies from injuries

Michael Noles, 27, of Franklin, died from his injuries Saturday following a Friday evening wreck on Georgia Highway 34 West near the Coweta-Heard county line, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Around 5 p.m. Friday, the driver of a 2001 Nissan Cube, Hollie Hamilton, 23, also of Franklin, was stopped at the intersection of Charlie B. Johnston Road and Franklin Road/Hwy. 34, attempting to turn left toward Franklin, according to Gory Wright, public information officer with the Georgia State Patrol.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Randolph Collins of the Newnan GSP Post, Hamilton pulled out, failing to yield to the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Noles, who was traveling eastbound. Noles hit Hamilton when she pulled out, and both vehicles came to a rest blocking the intersection.

Hamilton was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, but Noles was not, according to Franka Young with the Department of Public Safety Public Information Office.

Hamilton suffered several broken bones. Responding emergency personnel performed CPR on Noles, who was in cardiac arrest when they arrived, according to Collins. Noles was able to recover from cardiac arrest at the scene, but had not regained consciousness when both drivers were transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital by ambulance. Around 8 p.m. Friday, Noles was transported to the Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter.

Charges are pending against Hamilton, Collins said. An unopened bottle of alcohol was found in Hamilton’s vehicle, but there is no evidence she was impaired by alcohol at the time of the accident.

Funeral services for Noles were held Tuesday at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, where he was employed. Noles was attending Lowell Congregational Holiness Church and was in preparation to serve as a minister. Noles is survived by his wife, Ashley Nixon Noles — who is expecting their daughter in December — as well as his parents, two sisters and other family.
