Three-Vehicle Accident with Injuries Closes Highway 16

An accident involving a truck, a Coweta County school bus and a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office patrol car near the intersection of Highway 16 and Glover Road closed the highway to through traffic. 

According to radio traffic, Highway 16 reopened to traffic around 3:36 p.m.

The accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. when the truck, a GMC 7500 towing a backhoe loader, rear-ended the school bus which rear-ended the patrol car. The exact details of the accident are unknown at this time.

Both the deputy and an 11-year-old child were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Injuries are not clear at this time but do not appear to be life-threatening. The school bus was not filled with children at the time of the accident, and the other children and adults involved in the accident did not appear to need medical assistance.
