Second entrance approved for Newnan Centre

The Coweta County Board of Education approved the plan for a second traffic entrance to the system’s Centre for Performing and Visual Arts and the new Newnan Centre multi-use facility on Lower Fayetteville Road.
“The city has done a great job with the Centre and have had some great events already,” said Coweta County School Superintendent Dr. Steve Barker.
The Newnan Centre meeting facility officially opened in June adjacent to the school system’s performing arts center. Walkways and a pavilion connect the two facilities.
Newnan City Council approved the design for the second entrance at its July 23 council meeting.
The design is for a roundabout and will be at no cost to the school system.
The agreement between the board of education and the city for the two centers requires joint approval for the second entrance.
“In looking at that facility, there is an obvious need for an additional entrance,” said Barker. “They’re great neighbors, and I think great things will happen at that site.”
“We had a little extra time to study this than we expected,” said Newnan Convention Center Authority Chairman Parks Avery at the board meeting. “It’s expected to help both of the traffic lights at SummerGrove and at the elementary school there.”
While under construction, the roundabout will not close Lower Fayetteville Road. Foresite Group created the design concept and is handling the project.
“Most of the roundabout will be coming on our property,” said Avery. “They’ll allow probably six weeks for construction, and they will get going as soon as possible.”
