Man airlifted after falling 35 feet

Emergency workers carry a man who fell 35 feet from scaffolding to a waiting air ambulance at Coweta Fire Station 1 on Turkey Creek Road.


A man in his 40s was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital after falling off a three-story scaffold Wednesday afternoon south of Newnan.

The man was working on construction on Turkey Creek Road when the scaffolding he and another worker were standing on collapsed, Coweta County Fire Captain Craig Sherrer said. The men fell approximately 35 feet.

One man complained of back injuries when authorities arrived and was transported by ground to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Sherrer said. The second suffered multiple trauma and injuries to his face and upper extremities, and authorities contacted Life Flight to transport him to the Atlanta Medical Center.

Emergency response authorities noted the man sustained an obvious broken wrist and a broken nose. According to authorities, the man was conscious, but confused about what had happened.

The CCFD responded with Squad 1, Car 1, Car 4 and Car 706, Sherrer said, and an ambulance arrived to transport the man to CCFD Station 1 headquarters on Turkey Creek Road to be lifted by helicopter. 

Shorty after 5 p.m., a helicopter out of Carrollton was able to land in the front parking lot of the fire station. After the man was treated and prepared for transport, the helicopter took off around 5:35 p.m. and flew him to Atlanta Medical Center.
