Intoxicated Man Attempts to Flee Police

by Wes Mayer

A man was arrested Saturday morning after assaulting a man and attempting to flee from police.

Around 12:30 a.m., Newnan Police Officer Scott Kilgore responded to an assault at Jekyll and Hydes Sports Bar on 10 The Boulevard. According to his report, when he arrived, security staff pointed to the victim who had a gash above his right eye, and the suspect, Ricky JoHayden O’Kelley, 21, who were both standing outside.

When Kilgore walked toward the suspect, O’Kelley took off running into the woods. According to his report, Kilgore told him to stop, but O’Kelley continued to run. After a short chase, Kilgore caught O’Kelley and had to assist him out of the woods due to his high level of intoxication.

After speaking to the victim, Kilgore learned the victim was attempting to hold O’Kelley back because O’Kelley was arguing with his ex-girlfriend outside. The victim said O’Kelley was drunk and did not intentionally hit him, and the victim chose not to press any charges. The ex-girlfriend told Kilgore the argument was only verbal.

Kilgore charged O’Kelley with public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and resisting and interfering with officers, and he was transported to the county jail. The security staff at Jekyll and Hydes also gave O’Kelley a criminal trespass warning and told him not to return.
