East Washington Street was closed between Newnan’s Court Square and the railroad tracks Monday for the replacement and adjustment of two utility poles.

Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia was responsible for placing the new concrete poles before and after the railroad tracks on East Washington, beside the Depot History Center operated by Newnan-Coweta Historical Society.

“The existing poles are in conflict with connecting the street built with the park at the depot, to East Washington St.,” City of Newnan Public Works Director Michael Klahr said. “We will be connecting this street to E Washington St. in the future, but it has not been determined when this will be done.”

Workers planned to have the project finished by the end of the day Monday.
