The house at 108 Fuller Court in Grantville was a total loss from a fire Wednesday. Coweta firefighters were unable to enter the home due to the risk of the structure collapsing, and fought the blaze from the outside.

A Grantville home was destroyed in a fire Wednesday.

Coweta County Fire Department personnel fought the fire for more than four hours.

After a neighbor reported the fire, CCFD units were dispatched to 108 Fuller Court at 12:03 p.m. According to fire department Assistant Chief Jeff Denney, the home was 30 to 40 percent involved and had a heavy attic fire when units first arrived.

Seventeen firefighters responded to the address in three fire trucks, three cars, one fire engine, a rescue truck and a squad vehicle. Because of the high risk of the structure’s collapse, units were not able to aggressively attack the fire by entering the home, Denney said. They were instead forced to fight the fire from the outside in a defensive mode.

The CCFD also dispatched their hazardous materials truck to transport the department’s rehab tent to the scene to better protect firefighters’ health. According to Denney, the rehab tent is especially useful in the hotter days of the summer by providing firefighters a cooler environment to rest and stay hydrated.

CCFD units remained on scene to put out the remaining fires until 4:06 p.m., Denney said.

The residents evacuated safely and no firefighters were injured. However, the home was a total loss.
