Alcohol ordinance changes on county’s agenda

by Sarah Fay Campbell

An amendment to Coweta County's alcohol ordinance is on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Coweta County Board of Commissioners. The commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the county commission chambers of the Coweta County Administration Building on Perry Street in downtown Newnan. The changes are to the section of the ordinance that deals with "prohibited distances" for alcohol sales. Current prohibited distances are 100 yards from a church; 200 yards from a school, park, or college campus (but not schools that only teach specialized subjects); and 150 feet from a private residence.
No information on the details of the amendment were available on Friday. Other items to come before the board include: • Approval of a veterinary service agreement associated with assessments and spay/neuter surgeries for animals at the Coweta County Animal Shelter on Selt Road. • Survey work for intersection improvements at Hwy. 154 and Old Highway 16. • Approval of an automatic aid agreement with the city of Palmetto. • Approval of intergovernmental agreements with the Coweta County Board of Education, city of Senoia and town of Turin for installation of outdoor weather warning sirens. • Approval of a senior meals agreement with Three Rivers Regional Commission/ Southern Crescent Area Agency on Aging.
