Juveniles arrested for homemade explosives

by Wes Mayer

Three juveniles face charges after throwing homemade explosives at a Newnan home Sunday.

A woman living on Fairgreen Trace called 911 at 10:39 p.m. to report “a loud bang” at her residence, according to Officer Kenneth Hobbs of the Newnan Police Department. During the call, the woman's husband discovered a partially melted, foaming plastic water bottle on the porch.

The husband said he saw three youths drive by in a white Ford pickup truck, from which another water bottle was thrown. That bottle exploded in the front yard, Hobbs said.

Officer Anthony Grant stopped the truck, which contained three juvenile males, on SummerGrove Parkway. Grant and Officer Scott Kilgore found water bottles, aluminum foil and two bottles of toilet bowl cleaner labeled “The Works” in the vehicle.

The husband identified the suspects at the scene, and the youths admitted throwing the explosives, Hobbs said.

All three were charged with possession of a destructive device and released to the custody of their parents.
