Chickens galore – as well as other birds – and vendors and activities relating to poultry will be on view at the Coweta County Fairgrounds this weekend.
The Chattahoochee Valley Poultry Association will be holding its annual event, which Brian Massengale, the group's president, described as "the biggest show" to date. This year's show is the CVPA's ninth.
The nationally recognized show will be held Saturday and Sunday. Massengale said Thursday that 2,470 birds have been registered for the show. Poultry and other birds such as water fowl, guinea fowl and pigeons will be on view.
Some of the birds have a quite exotic appearance — not your everyday chicken.
Massengale said the event is open free to the public, and is an opportunity for families to come out and see this wide variety from the poultry breeding world.
The judged show takes place mainly Saturday – with gates open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The judged show ends Sunday about 10:30 a.m. when the show birds will be packed up for travel home.

However, the annual poultry show is held in conjunction with a two-day swap meet, which continues until about 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Chickens, rabbits arts and crafts and gardening items will be featured.
