Several Coweta Realtors attended the Georgia Association of Realtors annual Inaugural Meeting in Atlanta at the Cobb Galleria Jan. 28-31.
The Awards Luncheon to recognize individuals and associations for outstanding service and contributions was held on the Wednesday of the convention. The Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors (NCBOR) was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of its meeting the requirements in 15 of the 22 specified categories of achievement and accomplishments as outlined by GAR.
NCBOR’s own Luke Thompson was honored and thanked for his service as the retiring 2012 Dean of the Graduate Realtor Institute.
The crowd of more than 842 attendees was the largest number attending an Inaugural Meeting since 2005.
Attending from the Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors were Luke Thompson, Cindy Taylor, Karen Kurtz, Susie Walker, Linda Mitchell, Gilda Cheatham, Linda Huff, Joy Barnes, Jodie Shepard, Laura Crockarell, Vincent Truong, Jacqueline Truong and John Thrasher.
The opening session Jan. 28 featured former University of Georgia football star Herschel Walker. Walker both inspired and entertained the audience as he told many personal stories from his life experiences both in football and out of it.

On Jan. 29 the Realtors hosted the first ever Georgia Realtors Rally for Homeownership held on the front steps of the Georgia State Capitol. The more than 800 Realtors were addressed by Governor Nathan Deal and many other distinguished senators and representatives who showed their support for the Realtors. The group then went inside the Capitol building to meet with their representatives and/or senators to discuss important legislation and issues.

Wednesday of the convention was a day of continuing education classes including many classes on technology, programs to help distressed homeowners who need to sell, information security, property management, fraud prevention and mortgage scams, and community association issues that can affect closings.

The meeting was concluded on that Thursday of the week with the Board of Directors meeting attended by Newnan-Coweta Directors Luke Thompson, Linda Mitchell, Cindy Taylor, and Susie Walker, and Karen Kurtz, NCBOR association executive.
