New Leaf Community Garden needs volunteers, and Nicole Coleman, who directs the project, will be glad to have anyone come to help from Monday-Thursday afternoons.
Coleman said someone from New Leaf is at the garden in Newnan each afternoon from 3:30-4:30 from Monday-Thursday. The garden is located on Salbide Avenue next to Opal Ann’s Attic.
Coleman said she is hoping to find some more volunteers “willing to give of an hour on one of these days.” She also said she will make arrangements for people to help at other times if they cannot help during those days and hours.
Coleman said New Leaf is moving forward in several areas. In addition to much work being done at the site, the garden has a Facebook page and a website – www.newleafcommunitygarden.com .
She also said there are still a few raised beds available for local gardeners to rent for their own planting. The beds rent for $75 per year. Anyone interested should contact Coleman at nlcg30263@gmail.com .
“We also are accepting donations to put towards scholarships to provide people with a raised bed who cannot afford the $75 a year fee and soil,” Coleman said. “We are already harvesting from our boxes.”

“Boxes can be leased at any time and will continue to sprout and grow many vegetables over the next few months. Most people tend to think gardening is for spring and summer. We have a mild winter here in Georgia so here are some things that can be planted during the fall – broccoli, cauliflower, beets, carrots, spinach, kholrabi, swiss chard, brussel sprouts, cabbages, collards, kale, herbs – just to name a few,” she explained.

Food grown at the garden is being donated to Bridging the Gap.
