Coweta County exploring impact of Plant Yates' cutbacks

Georgia Power's Plant Yates is named for Eugene A. Yates, a New Jersey native who designed and built railroad tunnels in New York City before becoming chief engineer at Alabama Power in 1912. In 1947, Eugene Yates was named the first president of Southern Company.

Coweta County officials are hoping to meet with Georgia Power soon to talk about the impact of the pending changes at Plant Yates, and to “see if there is anything we can do to help with the process,” said Theron Gay, Coweta County administrator.
The proposed changes to Plant Yates, which sits in Coweta on the Chattahoochee River off Highway 16 West, were included in Georgia Power’s Integrated Resource Plan, which was filed Thursday with the Georgia Public Service Commission.
