Newnan Notes: Eight new business licenses issued

There were eight new tax occupational licenses issued by the city.
The business names are: Barnett Southern Corporation, DUI School of Coweta, JFP Construction, Nathan Hudson DBA See Me Graphics, The Perfect Poppy, Total Trim Inc., Tylers Total Car Care and Warner’s Rib Shack.

Valentine’s Day is an occasion celebrated on Feb. 14 and while it has a very long history dating back hundreds of years, the scale of the occasion we have today is largely thanks (or no thanks) to marketers. Some fast consumption related facts about Valentine’s Day: 1) Around a billion valentines are sent each year globally, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas. 2) 25 percent of all seasonal cards annually are valentines. 3) More than 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are sold each year. 4) Valentine’s Day is the top holiday for fresh flower purchases with red roses being most popular. These statistics come from American Greetings Corporation.


Valentine’s Day is big business and as such has the potential to have substantial impact on the environment. For example, the one billion cards laid end to end would stretch around the world five times! That’s a lot of trees.

Consider giving a Valentine’s Day gift with the planet in mind. Here are some ideas: 1) Cards made from recycled paper (this will be indicated on the card) 2) Consider sending an e-card instead using one of the many quality services around. 3) Choose organic and/or locally grown flowers. 4) Make a donation to an environmental organization on behalf of the person. Let’s show some love for the environment this year!
