Masonic District Deputy Grand Master Henry Johnson installed his replacement, Gene Alford, in ceremonies held on Jan. 22.
Both Johnson and Alford are members of Coweta Lodge No. 60 F.&A.M., located on Sewell Road in Newnan.
In his capacity as district deputy Grand Master, Alford will be overseeing seven area Masonic lodges, including six in Coweta — Bigham Lodge No. 53 in Moreland; Coweta Lodge No. 60 in Newnan; McIntosh Lodge No. 735 in Newnan; Senoia Lodge No. 82 in Senoia; Sylvan Lodge No. 429 in Sargent and Turin Lodge No. 337 in Turin — and one lodge in Carroll County, Tyus Lodge No. 671 in Tyus.
Johnson held the position for 15 years.
He has been a Mason for almost 60 years, was Worshipful Master of Coweta Lodge No. 60 twice. Originally from Verbena, Ala., Johnson served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and went on to be an Eastern Airlines pilot until his retirement in 1989.
He and his wife, Marie, live in Newnan.
Alford has been a Mason for 33 years and also was Worshipful Master of Coweta Lodge No. 60 twice. Except for his service in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, Alford has been a lifelong Coweta resident. He is retired from Georgia Power and he and his wife, Nancy, live in Newnan.
