20 Charter Academy students will attend school choice rallyBy REBECCA LEFTWICH
Twenty of Coweta Charter Academy’s best and brightest will board a bus for the State Capitol today in support of expanded educational opportunities for Georgia students.
Consisting of student government leaders from grades 2-5 and Colt Ambassadors, the Coweta Charter Academy group from Senoia will join approximately 2,000 public, private and home-schooled students at the fourth annual Georgia School Choice Celebration and Rally.
“It highlights the importance of school choice,” said Tiffany Pollock, who is in her first year as principal of the Senoia charter school, which just received a five-year renewal of its charter.
“There is an educational setting that’s perfect for every child, and it’s a parent’s right and responsibility to find that best learning environment for their child, whether it’s Coweta Charter, home school or Coweta County Public Schools,” Pollock said.
Pollock – an 18-year educator who has been a teacher and administrator in public and charter elementary and middle schools in Cherokee County, Marietta City Schools and public schools in South Carolina and Columbus – said she was “very pleased” with the November vote.
“It spoke volumes about our area and the state,” said Pollock.
“It proves our government and the people are actually for education, and they want that choice to be in the hands of parents.”
Coweta Charter students will meet up with Cherokee Charter students at the rally, then tour the Capitol and have lunch before heading back to Senoia.
“Our students love our school, and they are so excited about an opportunity like this,” Pollock said.
Center for an Educated Georgia estimates that 280,000 Georgia students are being educated outside of their neighborhood schools, private schools, public charter schools, career academies and home schools. For more information, visit www.schoolchoicerally.com or www.educatedgeorgia.org .
