Coweta Charter Academy at Senoia has received word its charter has been renewed for five years, effective at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.
The renewal was confirmed by Louis J. Erste, Charter Schools Division director of the Georgia Department of Education.
Currently, CCA admits students in grades 1 through 5.
The school has expressed interest in expanding to include sixth grade next year, then adding the seventh grade in the 2014-15 school year and adding eighth-grade classes during the 2015-2016 academic year, according to Lyn Michaels-Carden, board member of the Georgia Charter Educational Foundation.
School officials have previously announced plans for expansion of the campus, which is located on an 11-acre property along Highway 16 west of Senoia occupied by the Peachtree Baptist Church.
Classes are being held in the church building. Expansion plans propose construction of a new classroom building or buildings.
Red Apple Development LLC, the Florida-based corporation that provides the school’s management, will continue to do so and will construct the building and lease it to the Georgia Charter Educational Foundation.
The final size and design of the proposed classroom addition has not been announced.
In 2010, Red Apple tentatively proposed building a 34,000-square-foot addition at the rear of the existing building as well as a smaller addition fronting Highway 16.

In April 2011, the Senoia Mayor and Council voted to annex the school property into the city.

The annexation made it possible to extend sewer lines to the school site at Red Apple’s expense.

The sewer line that serves the school will be capable of serving nearby commercial and residential property.
