The Business Women of Fayette and Coweta named Ellie White-Stevens their third Business Woman of the Year.
“We lead by example, so recognizing exceptional women is something we want to do,” said BWFC Founder and 2012 President Patti Kadkhodaian. “Ellie has been a wonderful ambassador for BWFC within the community, and has chaired the Marketing Committee, as well as served on the Bylaws and Elections Committee. Her championing of the O Christmas Tea event has raised over $24,000 for Community Welcome House over the past four years.”
White-Stevens was recognized at the organization’s last meeting of 2012.
She will also be the president of the BWFC in 2013. “I’m grateful for this honor, grateful that there are so many excellent women who are with us in serving the community,” she said. “The BWFC has always kept focus on our causes and on the non-profits that we serve. This year, my priority is to benefit the amazing business women who are members, because when we are stronger, we can do more.”
“Ellie has been so positive and supportive of BWFC, and continues to invite other business women to join our group and our efforts. She is a great advocate for our members and the community and her energy is infectious,” said Membership Chair Rachel Smartt.

This year’s leadership team was also presented at the meeting. The team includes Vice President Joni Smith, Mary Kay; Secretary Debbie Edison, Juice Plus Wellness Coach; Treasurer Tina Hendry, CPA, T.D. Hendry & Co.; Member-at-Large Patti Kadhkodaian, AJAKO Promotional Products; Membership Chair Rachel Smartt, Smartt Nutrition; and Marketing Chair Maggie Laton, Social Media Expert.

Arby’s Foundation partners with Georgia Food Bank Association

The Arby’s Foundation is partnering with the Georgia Food Bank Association as part of its mission to help end childhood hunger in America. Over the next four years, The Arby’s Foundation will commit $3 million to help enhance the GFBA’s “Feeding for a Promising Future — No Kid Hungry” campaign.

In partnering with the campaign, the foundation will work to raise awareness and advocate for change in the fight against hunger by increasing participation in summer and after school meal programs, increasing access to the SNAP program for families with children, and providing nutrition education to children and their families to sustain a lifestyle of healthy eating.

The Arby’s Foundation was founded in 1986 as a way for Arby’s to give back to the communities it serves. In the last 25 years, the Foundation has donated over $52 million to various charitable causes across the country.

Former Newnan resident launches Moderate Me

Mercedes Bankston, who grew up in Newnan, has launched Moderate Me, a company that provides moderators to help put a buffer between those who can’t communicate reasonably in tense situations such as child custody and divorce.

“The end goal is to take the ‘button pushing’ out of the scenario and stick to the relevant issues -- something that angry couples have a hard time doing by themselves,” said Bankston. “We also provide personal assistants to respond to the ex which helps keep communications on track. Our services are important because most people don’t know what to ask their lawyers for and end up spending three times the amount they should for simple requests. People also tend to make matters worse when going through trial for a custody hearing or divorce-- you never know when a communication will be brought into light to bite you,” she said.

Bankston is featured in The CRAVE book coming out this month for women entrepreneurs.
