Like communities across the nation, Cowetans are enjoying Christmas lights this holiday season.
The Newnan Times-Herald for 2012 again had invitations from several residents who invite readers to get out and see the elaborate displays. It is a chance to pile family and friends in the car and enjoy some time together.
Among some recommended stops:
• Putting his talents as an engineering student to work, Justin Caswell built a merry-go-round and a Ferris wheel for the Christmas display at 649 Dixon Road. The display also features among its lights a small cable car over the various scenes.
• Home of Eric and Sherry Lambert at 40 Camellia Circle in the Lake Hills neighborhood north of Newnan off U.S. Highway 29. The Lamberts are collecting food for the Coweta Community Food Pantry. Christmas music is played at 99.9 FM to coordinate with the display.
• Yarbrough home, 205 Brittian Way, Timber Ridge neighborhood off U.S. 29 North. Features 70,000 lights, with synchronized music broadcast to passing cars via low-power FM transmitter. The family also is accepting contributions for the Coweta Community Food Pantry.
• Decorations were started at 41 Pine Knot Drive six years ago when granddaughter Maddie Brown was born. Grandparents Cheryl and Arlis Smallwood began with lighted bows and a garland around the porch, then started adding a few inflatables each year. Now they have 15 inflatables and a manger scene. The lights are displayed nightly 5:30 to 10:45 except on rainy or windy nights until Dec. 26.
• The home of Ken and Tonya Scott at 14 Stillwater Way in SummerGrove. They have been adding to their growing display for 20 years.
• The Berryer-Davies home at 6 Shady Oak Lane, Newnan. Decorating for Christmas each year “brings out the kid” in Mark Davies, according to his wife, Kristine Berryer. They’ve been decorating since they moved here 10 years ago, buying new additions after each Christmas, and the collection has grown. The lights display has expanded so much, a new electrical circuit had to be added.
• A colorful scene with an inflated hot-air balloon awaits at 155 Hannah Road, the Benton residence.
• The home of the Franklin and Pat McEachern at 755 Bexton Road south of Moreland is lighting up the night in Coweta County for the 58th year. Franklin made many of the displays. With the help of his children and grandchildren, the lights were installed this year while he was undergoing chemo and radiation for a tumor. “He’s doing well and the tumor has shrunk,” Pat said.

• At 50 Canterberry Drive in Grantville Hugh and Alice Nash have mounted a display they have done for a number of years.

• Cooper home, 620 Holbrook Road. “From our family to your family” is the blessing headlining the massive Christmas decorations on the lawn of Glenn and Susan Cooper.

• In downtown Newnan view the twinkling lights around the Court Square, and you can stop by McKoon Funeral Home on Jackson Street where the lawn is covered in a winter wonderland of lights — inside is a tiny village of ceramic homes arranged on snow-covered stairs.
