New playground equipment is expected in Moreland.
Councilman Jeff Burgess told colleagues about the anticipated arrival of the new equipment at Tuesday’s council meeting. About 25 people attended the meeting at the Town Hall at the Moreland Mill.
“They hope to be installing it Thursday and Friday,” Burgess said. The town rents the meeting room area of the Moreland Mill for weddings and events.
A wedding is scheduled at the mill this weekend, and Burgess said the equipment for the playground project will be removed from downtown by 5 p.m. on Friday.
Burgess also submitted information on bids for groundcover at the park. It was decided to use red-stained mulch because of its lesser cost.
The lowest bid was from Moreland Mulch for $2,800. Rick Hodges, owner of the local business, agreed to help level the park property, too, at no additional cost.
There were two other bids, with the highest one “a little over $6,000,” Burgess said.

Councilman Allyn Bell asked about costs for the playground project. Burgess said the cost for rubber chips would have been about $17,000 – about $41,000 for a rubber mat.

Burgess made a motion to have Hodges provide the mulch and do the leveling work. Councilman Dick Ford seconded the motion, and it passed without dissent.
