City of Newnan names Cox as new fire marshal

Timothy Cox has been named the new fire marshal for the Newnan Fire Department.
Cox replaces Ricky Ayers, who was with the city for more than 25 years and recently took a job at the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Newnan.
Cox will be responsible for inspecting buildings to ensure compliance with state and local codes and supervising public education programs.
He also will oversee fire investigations to determine origin and cause, as well as serve as the coordinator for the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Cox is a native of LaGrange and has been employed with the city for more than 10 years. Prior to joining the Newnan department, he served in LaGrange for six years and then another six years with the Troup County Fire Department. Overall, he has more than 22 years of fire service.
Cox attended the Fire Science Program at West Georgia Technical College in LaGrange, where he received his associate degree in Fire Science.
He graduated from LaGrange College where he graduated with honors with a bachelor of arts degree in human development.
He also works with the mentally challenged at the Pathway Program in LaGrange.
