The badly decomposing body of a female was discovered Sunday morning in an East Newnan residence, and authorities are waiting autopsy results to determine whether to file murder charges.
As of Monday, Rodolfo Chacon Reyes, 33, the boyfriend of the dead woman, is charged with battery and is being held in the Coweta County Jail without bond, according to Major Jimmy Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
The dead woman was identified as Tasha Lynn Buchan, 27, who lived at 102 East Wood Street with Reyes.
"He (Reyes) called about the body," the major said. "She had been dead for days. You could smell the body outside of the home.
"It is very suspicious," Yarbrough added.
"There was extreme decompensation to the body and some trauma as well. As of now, Reyes is charged with battery, but we are awaiting the results of the autopsy, which is scheduled for tomorrow," Yarbrough said Monday afternoon.
Depending on the outcome of the autopsy, murder charges could be filed, the major said. If so, it would be the first homicide in the unincorporated county this year.
There have been two shooting deaths in Newnan so far this year.
