U.S. Air Force retiree speaks at Veterans Day observance

The Buffalo Soldiers - American Veterans Post 910 presented the flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines at the Veterans Day program at Roscoe Jenkins.

A Veterans Day observance was held the afternoon of Nov. 11 at Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel in Newnan.
Speaker was Kenneth Rand, U.S. Air Force, retired.
Chaplain Master of Ceremonies of the program was Rev. Dr. Kenneth G. Bailey, a U.S. Army Gulf War veteran.
Several veterans participated in the program, including Reverend Robert Wood, commander of AMVETS Post 142, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Rev. Dr. Marcus Dixon, a Vietnam veteran, did the invocation.
The Buffalo Soldiers - American Veterans Post 910 presented the flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines; the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard posted the colors, and Rev. Nathaniel Russell, a Vietnam veteran, sang the national anthem.
Chaplain Bailey introduced the distinguished guests, and the welcome address was done by owners Linette Ward and Octavia Mahone of Roscoe Jenkins, which sponsored the program.
George Alexander, a retired commander of the U.S. Navy, recognized all veterans by branch.

A solo was presented by Minister Antonio Johnson of the Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home staff.

World War II veterans James Ferrell and Henry N. Wilkerson (age 100) were recognized for their service to their community, state and country.

The meaning of “Taps” was presented by Dick Stender, U.S. Army retired, and the program closed with a benediction by chaplain Kenneth G. Bailey.
