Santa will be making his annual post-Thanksgiving stop in downtown Newnan for the 2012 Main Street Newnan Mingle with Kringle event Friday evening.
Parents, bring your cameras... Santa is making his way from the North Pole and will be ready to greet children of all ages in downtown Newnan this Friday evening after Thanksgiving.
"Main Street Newnan is delighted to open our streets and hearts to the season’s most jolly fellow..." said Main Street Manager JoAnn Gentry. "So get your list ready and join us to Mingle with Kringle!"
Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. and will be available to hear Christmas wishes until 8 p.m.
"This annual tradition in historic downtown Newnan reminds us all of the importance of the holiday season: fostering hope, charity, forgiveness and kindness," said Gentry. “Santa’s arrival to Newnan is a family-friendly event that enables the child in each of us to escape to a more simple time."
Families are encouraged to bring a camera, take a photo with Santa and hand-deliver their wish list, Gentry said.

Main Street is also designating Nov. 23 as Plaid Friday in downtown Newnan until 8 p.m. Plaid Friday celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses, offering an alternative to big box stores' Black Friday events. Wear plaid at participating businesses and receive a gift, Gentry said.

Visit www.mainstreetnewnan.com or call 770-253-8283 for more information on Newnan's holiday events.

Santa will also be riding in the City of Newnan Christmas Parade Dec. 2.

The theme this year is “Merry Musical Christmas.”

The parade steps off at 3 p.m. Dec. 2 from the city park at Temple Avenue and Jackson Street. It continues on Jackson, through the Court Square and out LaGrange Street to Newnan High School with floats, walking groups, decorated cars and trucks, and marching bands.

Gina Snider, city of Newnan, public information officer, said volunteers are needed. If you or your group is interested in volunteering contact the city’s public information office at 770-254-2358 or email gsnider@cityofnewnan.org .

If you are interested in being in the parade, contact Snider or Wendy LaRotonda at City of Newnan at 770-253-2682 - extension 203 or 228 or go to www.ci.newnan.us.ga and download an application. The completed application may be faxed to 770-254-2353 or mailed to 25 LaGrange Street, Newnan, GA 30263 along with the $35 entry fee. Applications must be received by Monday, Nov. 26.

A portion of the proceeds will support the Georgia Municipal Association's Mayor's Motorcade event to provide holiday gifts to those in the state's mental hospitals.
