The SummerGrove neighborhood is gearing up for its annual Christmas celebration to honor caregivers and those fighting leukemia and other health challenges.
Now in its third year, the “Lights for Linda” campaign involves lighting luminaries on Christmas Eve.
The endeavor was started by Nancy Sanker and friends to honor Sanker’s sister, Linda McGrenaghan, who lost a 19-year battle with leukemia. Last year, the fundraiser gave more than $2,400 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) to honor the sick and their caregivers.
The kits include eight luminary bags, eight long-burning candles, sand and instructions. Organizers are asking for a suggested tax-deductible donation of $20 to the LLS. They also hope other subdivisions and families will join throughout the county.
New this year is the opportunity to be a “Lighthouse” by having a sign in your front yard from Dec. 1-8 encouraging neighbors to participate, The professionally done signs will be delivered and picked up.
“Thanks to the individuals who have provided seed money for this endeavor, 100 percent of every donation goes to the LLS,” Sanker said.

Luminary kits may be ordered now at lightsforlinda@gmail.com .

Organizers are asking that orders be placed by Dec. 3. Kits will be available for pick-up on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon in front of the SummerGrove Town Hall.

There will be an additional pick-up day on Monday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 59 Beacon Crest in The Cottages in SummerGrove.

“Lights for Linda Luminaries celebrates every individual who is health challenged and salutes those who care for them,” Sanker said.

“You can be a part of making your neighborhood a magical gift on Christmas Eve.”
