Full Cry brings together hunt, Scottish traditions

Full Cry was a day of pageantry, tradition and fun.
The event – sponsored by Bear Creek Hounds and the Moreland Cultural Arts Alliance – was held at Bear Creek Farm near Moreland on Saturday. The day began with the traditional opening hunt with tallyho wagons following the hounds and riders.
Members of the Order of the Tartan of the Chattahoochee Valley brought music, kilts and a spirited Scottish games competition. Order of the Tartan member Michael Scott said the Bear Creek event attracted “some of the best in the Southeast and in the country” to the Wee Scottish Games.
Olympic rider Becky Holder showed her skills and signed autographs. There also were demonstrations of hunting dogs and fly fishing.
Several vendors brought their wares, and the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society and the Meriwether Adults Serving Kids Club manned food booths.
Phil Town was master of ceremonies for the day. He said Hal Barry, who owns Bear Creek Farm, started BCH with “the original pack of hounds” and has overseen the growth of the BCH event into “one of the finest hunts on the eastern seaboard.”
Barry said it was wonderful to see young people becoming part of the hunt tradition. Barry also talked about the fine horses and the hounds – “their heart, their spirit and their cry.”
This year’s hunt was the 10th for Bear Creek Hounds.
