Community Foundation makes donation to support Muster III

The Coweta Community Foundation (CCF) recently awarded a $1,000 grant to the Coweta Commission on Veterans Affairs (CCVA), an organization whose mission is to educate the general public about the sacrifices made by local veterans and their families.
The grant will be used to support Muster III, a series of events scheduled for Oct. 11-14 at the Coweta County Fairgrounds. The purpose of Muster III is to pay tribute to veterans who have served since the Vietnam War, during the period known as the “War on Terrorism.”
This year’s event focuses on more recent conflicts including Afghanistan, Iraq, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and others. According to CCVA co-chair Malcom Jackson, Muster III “will specifically acknowledge the servicemen from Coweta County who made the ultimate sacrifice in those conflicts.” Their names are listed on a plaque at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Newnan. The name of the latest casualty, Captain Nicholas Whitlock, was added to the plaque in a special ceremony on Memorial Day.
CCF Board Members Wendy Fox and William Conoly met with Jackson and co-chair Joe Brooks at the Veteran’s Memorial Park to congratulate the CCVA on its grant award. Conoly noted, “It has been such an honor to offer our support to the commission these past few years, in recognition of all the sacrifices made by our service men and women as well as their families.”
CCF’s funding interests include, but are not limited to, women and children’s issues, public safety, education, and the arts.
CCF maintains a broad and ongoing grants program which does not discriminate with regard to race, sex, religion, nation origin, handicap, familial status or age.
Initially established in 1997 by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, CCF exists to help make the quality of life better for all Coweta County citizens.
