The 6th annual Valhalla Classic high school band competition is Saturday at Northgate High School, attracting 14 bands from across the metro Atlanta region and from as far away as Macon and Woodstock to the north Coweta event.
The competition begins in the early afternoon, with the first band taking the field at 3 p.m.
The Northgate Viking Band will perform at 5:45 p.m.
An awards ceremony will be held about 9 p.m. following the day's performances and scoring by the judges.
The event put on by the Northgate Band Boosters is a fundraiser for the band, said this year's chairman Ena Parrott. Funds go toward equipment, future travel and other efforts by the band boosters.
