It’s time again for the state’s sales tax holiday for energy and water efficient products and appliances.
The sales tax holiday runs from Friday through Sunday, and gives an exemption from state and local sales taxes for certain Energy Star and Water Sense items that cost less than $1,500.
“This tax holiday is a great opportunity for retailers, product manufacturers and consumers to work together to promote more efficient practices,” said Rick McAllister, president of the Georgia Retail Association. “Many consumers today are looking for greener choices when they equip their homes, and the tax holiday is a great way to help them shop for those products. On top of the tax savings, people will get to save even more down the road on their utility bills.”
Energy Star products that are eligible for the holiday are: air conditioners, ceiling fans, clothes washers, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, doors, fluorescent light bulbs, programmable thermostats, and refrigerators. Other Energy Star appliances such as water heaters and clothes driers, and other heat-producing appliances, are not eligible.
Water Sense labeled products that are exempt are bathroom sink faucets and accessories, high efficiency toilets and urinals, shower heads, and weather or sensor-based irrigation controllers.
The exemption doesn’t apply to items purchased for trade or business use, or rented or leased items.
“I encourage everyone to play their part in maintaining our environment by participating in the tax-free holiday to save money and, ultimately, conserve Georgia’s resources,” said Gov. Nathan Deal.
