A “chaotic” set built for filming an episode of “The Walking Dead” in downtown Grantville will require closing of Main Street for a week, according to city officials.
Mayor Jim Sells said the set – used to film Episode 12 of Season 3 of the AMC zombie series – will remain in place until Monday, Sept. 17, when filming concludes.
Motorists will be able to cross the railroad tracks and use Moreland Street to get to and from Lagrange Street, according to Sells, who said Lagrange and Post streets and Bohannon Road will remain open during filming.
“Filming went well yesterday on Church Street, Griffin Street and Lagrange Street,” Sells said by email Friday.
Crews have shot footage inside the Zellar building on Main Street and have finished filming on Church and Griffin streets.

Sells said the show’s star, Andrew Lincoln, has been “very gracious,” about signing autographs for fans.

Cleanup should be complete by Wednesday, Sept. 19, according to Sells, making way for the town’s annual Crosstie Festival on Sept. 22.

“This is the busiest September I can remember,” Sells said.
